    Backyard Bass

Backyard Bass makes learning to cast fun. Endorsed by the Future Fisherman Foundation, Backyard Bass are plastic casting targets shaped like fish that are used to teach casting techniques and improve casting accuracy. To use, simply place the Backyard Bass on the ground or float them in a pond and start casting. Snag one of the fish with your casting plug and reel it in -- just like real fishing! See Backyard Bass in action

The Backyard Bass are sold in sets of three fish and two casting plugs or as individual fish. Standard colors are blue, orange and yellow. Custom colors are available for quantities of more than 300 fish.

    Backyard Bass are used by:

    • Angler educators
    • Clubs and organizations
    • Schools
    • Parents and Families

Some ways to use the Backyard Bass

    One Player

    1. Place each Backyard Bass at different distances from you. See how long it takes to reel in all three fish!
    2. Assign a point value to each fish and see how many points you can earn.
    3. Place a fish behind an obstacle: a bucket, rock, or chair-then try to catch it!

    Two or More Players

    1. B-A-S-S: Place the Backyard Bass around the yard and take turns trying to catch a fish. When one player catches a fish – the other player then has a chance to catch the same fish from the same location with one try. If he does, the game goes on; but if he doesn’t, he gets a letter, “B”. Keep going until someone spells BASS. The player with the fewest letters wins.
    2. Players assign a point value to each fish and cast to see who can accumulate the most points
    3. Each player chooses a fish and places it 15 feet away--see who can reel in their fish first!

    Backyard Bass Resources

Backyard Bass are designed to make learning to cast fun and easy. The Backyard Bass casting games are ideal for kids ages 6 and up, families, angler educators, fishing programs, youth camps, PE programs and youth organizations.

There are 3 easy steps to casting games with the Backyard Bass

    1. Place the Bass on the Ground
Most any flat surface will work…a patio, pavement, grass or even a gym floor. The Backyard Bass can even float and be used on the water!
    2. Stand Away & Cast
    3. Step a comfortable distance from your fish and cast the plug just past the fish you want to catch.
    4. Catch One of the Fish and Reel It In
Snag the fish with the plug while you are reeling it in!

    Single Player Suggestions:

    • Place each Backyard Bass at different distances from you. See how long it takes you to reel them all in. Assign points to the different colors and see how many points you can accumulate in ten minutes of casting.

    Two or Three Player Suggestions:

    1. B-A-S-S: The Backyard Bass are placed around the yard and players take turns trying to catch a fish. When one player catches a fish the other players try to catch the fish from the same location in one cast. If the other players don’t catch the fish they each get a B. Players take turns casting for fish until one player gets all the letters to spell B-A-S-S. The player at the end with the fewest letters wins.
    2. Fishing Derby: Players can assign point values to each color fish. They place the Backyard Bass around the casting area and begin casting for them. The player with the most points at the end of 5 minutes wins.
    3. Race: Place the Backyard Bass equal distance from each player. The first player to reel in a fish wins.
    4. Take it a step further: Stick images of local fish with measurements on the back of each Backyard Bass. Students can then identify what they’ve caught. Is it a keeper?

Remember – Always practice safe casting!!

Back Yard Bass is a fantastic teaching aid. It is a fun, educational tool. We use it to teach Cubs and Scouts to fish. The kids love the game, learning to cast while playing. Parents can help their younger kids which makes it a fun family activity for Cubs. Our Scouts, age 11 and above, pick up the skills immediately. We also use it to train adults where the games can get quite competitive.

    We love this game.

We bought the fishing pole from a store and lost the fish that went with it. After looking all over, I took a chance on this set. It comes with 2 fish for the lures and 3 BIG fish to catch. Yes the lure fishes are heavy enough to go as far as the original fish. We play this game on the lawn and in the swimming pool. The order went well and the shipping was quick.

    Great product
I am a chief instructor for the Vermont Fish and Wildlife and use this product to teach kids how to cast. I write the type, size weight and a location on the bottom of the fish so the kids can learn how to use the law book. Lots of fun
